The Red Sox are cheap goofs!
I know that nobody cares about baseball but imagine being a fan of a 3 Billion Dollar Baseball Franchise, only 2 years removed from a World Series Championship, who decides to trade away their best player, a 2018 AL MVP because they don’t want to pay an extra $12 Million in the luxury tax? Wheeeeewwww chile, The ghetto!!! This is the same team that just had to fire their manager because of very credible suspicions that he was the mastermind behind a cheating scandal that may have resulted in 2 World Series Championships. If this sounds like a team you root for, then yikes!
As a Yankee fan, I for one am elated that the Boston Red Sox are acting like they get paid biweekly and have to make their money stretch for another 10 sleeps. Say what you want about the Yankees, but when they want to win they pay their guys, big shout out to Mr.Steinbrenner may he Rest In Peace. As big and prestigious (I don’t know why) of a franchise the Red Sox are, they should always be in win now mode. So seeing them act like the Miami Marlins is comical. I’m glad that the Red Sox realize they cannot compete and stop reaching for the big piece of chicken and scurry back to the kiddie table.
Mookie Betts is no Babe Ruth( “he is better”-insert from Editor in Chief Marcanthony), but he’s pretty damn good. For all of you that are not familiar with Mookie Betts (great name btw) let me give you some stats. Through six seasons Mookie’s Wins Above Replacement is 42.0 which is better than Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays and Barry Bonds. There are only six players who have a better score than him, which are Ted Williams, Mike Trout, Albert Puljos, Jackie Robinson, Wade Boggs and Joe DiMaggio. Not sure if you've heard of them but they’re pretty good.
The Red Sox gave away a player of that type of potential along with a quality starting pitcher in David Price( “I throw better than Davis Price”- Everyone at Tech Sports) for a pack of trident gum because they want to be cheap. I’m not even going to research the ”prospect” that they got back because this was all about dumping salary at the end of the day. They didn’t want to pay Betts any longer and they knew with his upcoming free agency he would be asking for what they call “the bag”. Reports leaked out by the Sox that Mookie turned down a 8 year extension for 200 million dollars, as he should’ve! Mike Trout just got 12 years for 430 million and according to the market that was a paycut. Now should Mookie be paid more than Mike Trout? Maybe not but that doesn’t mean he can’t ask for it, we’re still in America right! Mookie wants to be paid a fair market value and Boston thinks he should be like Brady and take shorts. Mookie essentially told the Red Sox organization “I don’t kiss my kids in the mouth bro foh”. And they promptly traded him to Los Angeles…..oooooh that really showed him.
Everyone in baseball has been trying to adopt the “moneyball” approach and trying to mimic the way that the Astros built their team. NEWS FLASH BUDDY, THE ASTROS CHEATED! Dumping elite players for miscellaneous prospects to cut payroll rarely works, ask the Marlins how they feel about trading away Yelich and Stanton and only getting Will Brinson (who is not good) and a Cuban sandwich in return.
With this deal the LA Dodgers now have 2 MVPs Bellinger and Betts and were also able to bolster their bullpen. An extra 12 Million Dollars in their owners pocket. Congrats Boston, you played yourself, now go cry over your lobster roll and chowder, goofs!
