End of year NBA Awards!

Year End Awards

Finally we have gotten to the end of the NBA season even if Adam Silver was going to drag us through the finish line. Let’s be honest this was the worst NBA season in recent memory and we all thought it was going to be so. For a league that stresses player safety it seems like they threw all that out of the window this year for the sake of the TV dollars, and I understand. But let's not be naive and act like it did not take a toll on the oncourt product, with COVID postponing games and taking players out (sometimes mid game), the back to backs and 3 games in 4 night stretches that some teams endured causing major injuries to some of our best players the NBA got their TV but taking a line from Avengers Infinity War “What did it cost?” “Everything”.

With that being said I truly believe that we will get a better brand of basketball this Postseason, I think a lot of players were trying to get through the regular season so that they can ball out. Even though this was a wacky uninspiring season awards still need to be doled out, so without further adieu I present you the only NBA Awards list that matters, you will not have to search any further:

MVP:

Nikola Jokic

  • As much as I have been trying to fight this choice since Lebron and Embiid went down due to injury I cannot deny the impact he has to winning for the Nuggets, especially since Jamal Murray went down they have found a to win and lock up a 3rd seed in the West. Yes he looks like a lunch lady but he goes to work! In 30 years we are going to have to explain to our kids why a plumber won MVP and we’re going to explain how much of a bad man he was.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Chris Paul:

    • They keep counting Chris Paul out and year after year his team wins, congrats to him for another great season

  • Julius Randle:

    • Conrow Larry Bird has been on a tear this year and he’s gotten the Knicks to a 4 seed, if they win a playoff series give him the max. Julius deserves all his flowers for the season he put up.

  • Steph Curry:

    • Honestly if the Warriors weren’t trying to tank this year by playing James Wiseman all those minutes theyd be a better seed and Steph might’ve gotten an MVP off the strength of Juan Tuscano Anderson being their third best player. This is on Steve Kerr.

Rookie of The Year:

Lamelo Ball:

  • This was a no-brainer, since his first game Lamelo has proven that he belongs in this league. Even with missing time due to a wrist injury he has proven that he is ahead of the rest of the players in his Draft Class by a mile. The future is bright in Charlotte.

Honorable Mention:

  • Anthony Edwards:

    • Anthony Edwards is already one of the most entertaining players in the NBA, not just rookies. He started off slow but since the Wolves made a coaching change mid season he has shown major improvements, not sure if he made a leap or if Coach Not Ryan Saunders unlocked something in him. The future is bright for Antman but I’ve seen Fargo not many good things happen in Minnesota.

  • Tyrese Haliburton:

    • I liked Tyrese as a prospect coming into the draft and was surprised he fell to the Kings as teams like the Knicks and the Pistons could’ve used a guard with a high basketball IQ that can both be a playmaker and play offball. Tyrese has played great all season and deserves some recognition.

Defensive Player Of the Year:

  • WHO CARES

  • Ben Simmons:

    • I’ll give this award to Ben Simmons but honestly nobody really played defense this year and it shows by the point totals, it seems like everyone dropped 40 every night. Ben gets this award solely due to the fact he had Donovan Mitchell on shackles. I’m not giving Rudy Baguette in the honorable mentions because I don't really care for his game.

Sixth Man Of The Year:

  • Jordan Clarkson:

    • Our Filipino brother Jordan Clarkson has been putting up points all season with no assist, all while wearing a Tyler Perry wig. Give that man his flowers.

Most Improved:

  • Julius Randle:

    • Julius Randle went from an NBA afterthought to Cornrow Larry Bird and a star at MSG. He put in the work in the offseason and it has paid off. Give that man an award.
